I'm in Ezekiel(ESV) for my daily Bible readings this cold Saturday morning, underlining words or phrases that stick out to me. I kept seeing the phrase...KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD...with variations preceding it such as "then they shall, or then you shall, or then the nations shall" know that I am the LORD. So I decided to count them this morning, and from Ezekiel Ch.5 through Ezekiel Ch.39 (ESV), God says this so many times over & over throughout Scripture. It becomes very obvious that the LORD God considers it of utmost importance to Himself that I, you, and the nations of the world KNOW THAT HE IS THE LORD.
Isaiah 45:22(ESV) "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.
People across the world today mistakenly think that all roads lead to heaven, and that we're all worshiping the same God, in different forms, whether it be Buddhism, Hinduism, New Ageism, Islam, Mother Earth, Pantheism, Panantheism, or whatever other idolatrous systems you want to include. They say Jesus was "a way" but not "The Way"... God's attribute of "love" is the only one they want to acknowledge, but Scripture speaks of God's attributes including "jealousy", "wrath", "judgment", just to name a few...
Jesus said
John 12:48(ESV) The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has a Judge; the Word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
I think the Westminster Short Catechism had it right:
Question. 1. What is the chief end of man?
Answer. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

This is a really good read for me. Must agree that you are one of the coolest blogger I ever saw office furniture
ReplyDeleteThanks, Zem!
ReplyDeleteThis morning I was reading through Ezekiel and I noticed the same thing but I also noticed in chapters 5 6 and 7 God says I WILL 30 something times. So i googled how many times Ezekiel says I WILL and you came up.
ReplyDeleteThanks now I'm going back to the whole chapter and see how many times God says I will and the word after it.
Just came across your blogs. Sorry to see that they have stopped. It was a blessing this morning to glance through them!! If I could write as you did, my blog comments and focus would be exactly what your blog comments and focus have been. (I found your blog when I was wondering how many times "they will know that I am the Lord" was found in Ezekiel". I was reminded in Ezekiel that this statement will be found in every person's life, either during the time of grace and mercy, or during the time of wrath and judgement. What an eternity-defining question it is when in a person's life that truth will become known.
ReplyDeleteThanks for those blogs. I will enjoy and benefit from going through them.

Phrase is also used y God in Jeremiah!
ReplyDeletePerfectly said!
DeleteThis says 72 times, but I heard a preacher on the radio claim that 77 times in the scriptures it says Yahwah is Elohim / Eloah (in our bibles as 'LORD' or 'God' )--so could it be that you missed 5 other instances? I'm looking for a list of the verses but you only provided a few here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. I've not blogged in over a decade but still get comments in my e-mail and am encouraged to know these old posts are still being read. My point wasn't to give an exact count but to emphasize how important it must be to the LORD that He would have this repeated so many times, both here, and throughout Scripture. Therefore I edited it to de-emphasize the actual number.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you all!
