...if God is not Sovereign, then God is not God.

"If there is one maverick molecule in all the universe, then God is not Sovereign. And if God is not Sovereign, He is not God."

A true disciple inquires not whether a fact is agreeable to his own reason, but whether it is in the Book!

John Piper quoted this conversation between Adoniram Judson, the American Baptist Missionary to Burma (modern day Myanmar) from 1813-1850, and a local Buddhist teacher. The article in its entirety can be found at the link at the bottom of the blog.

Once when a Buddhist teacher said that he could not believe that Christ suffered the death of the Cross because no king allows his son such indignity,
"Judson responded, 'Therefore you are not a disciple of Christ.
A true disciple inquires not whether a fact is agreeable to his own reason, but whether it is in "The Book"
.

His pride has yielded to the divine testimony.
Teacher, your pride is still unbroken.
Break down your pride, and yield to the Word of God."
Couldn't the same statement be made about the difficulty people have in yielding their human pride to accept other tough doctrines clearly taught in Scripture, such as the Eternality of God, the Trinity, and certainly one that is not agreeable to the natural man's "reason", God's total Sovereignty over all things, including our Salvation?  Predestination and Election are Biblical Doctrines, but man wants to have something of which to boast.  However, the Apostle Paul said if anyone boasts, let him boast in the Lord!
